In the capital again brewing scandal with the excavations at the Postal square, where more than two and a half years ago was discovered unique ancient streets and buildings of Kievan Rus. Today there is a tent of activists and declared termless protest action, as the shopping center developer allegedly can destroy valuable artifacts.
The picket was organized by ordinary people of Kiev, the authors of the petition to establish a Museum for the finds, which scored the required 10 thousand. “Excavations are trying to destroy his ancient layer of the concrete slab floor between the first and second floors of the future shopping center. And there is a preparation for styling, there are hammers! It will destroy valuable findings: gender is just at the level of log buildings that can be destroyed. And work under the slab — dangerous to life — says the activist Anabella Morin. — We announce an indefinite protest and will picket the construction of the tent. Because excavations carried out everywhere (with a total area of about 5,000 square meters). We will require that the city took over the financing. in order to avoid any possible manipulation by the developer”.
Themselves archeologists confirm that the object is in danger. “If you put the stove, then it will actually stop further research on the subject. While the work continues, but the investor has suspended funding and still not paid for our work. And if not calculated, then we will be forced to suspend the excavation,” — told the “Today” Deputy Director of the Center of archaeology of Kiev Yuriy Kuharchuk.
At the same time of the city hall assure that the installation plate will not interfere with archaeological excavations, and the work continues on schedule to meet all building codes.
“Work on the preservation, study, conservation and museumification of the site coastal district of XI—XII centuries are carried out according to plan. Now work has begun preparatory works on the floor slab, which provides stiffness and stability of structures of the object. Archaeological excavations envisaged in the project is underway,” — said Deputy KSCA Alexander Spasibo. With regard to the financing and carrying out further excavations in the city hall assure that they are in talks with the investor of the shopping center.
We will remind, in 2015, on the place where is planned to build a shopping center, we found many historical treasures: ancient coins, 13 diplomatic seals, crosses, ceramics. Found the ancient streets and blocks XI—XII centuries and the estate of the Kievan Rus. Archeologists assure that this place is sacred to capital.

In the summer of 2017 for the fate of archaeological excavations at the Postal square took themselves residents of the capital. On the website “community project” where people of Kiev submit their initiatives for the development of the city and are struggling for the budget of 100 million UAH for the implementation, there was a proposal to create an underground Museum, which will feature all archaeological finds on the Mail.
