Experts say that the coins were discovered during excavations in the Saitama Prefecture in the city of Hasuda. They dated the medieval “Era of warring provinces” (the Sengoku period), which ended with the establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
Found a pitcher with a height of 70 cm, which contained 260 000 copper coins. In the middle of each of the coins has a hole in it. Through it missed the rope and worn coins in the bundle.
“This is Japan’s largest discovery of coins in a clay jar. It is also the largest and the number of identified coins”, – stated in the message of the Museum.
