The country’s budget for next year will contain a basic income for poor people.
The economy Minister of Italy Giovanni Tria announced that the country’s budget in 2019 would include a basic income for poor people and low retirement age.
These measures promoted the representatives of the populist “5 stars Movement”, included in the ruling coalition with the right party “League”. The movement threatened not to vote for the budget unless his demands are met.
The draft budget should be submitted on Thursday. The Minister of economy noted that there is a need for such a policy, which will allow to solve problems of the market and to avoid collision with the EU.
“We are working on a policy that shows everyone that they should trust Italy not only in our public finances, but also in our economic growth,” said Tria.
During the election campaign the “Movement 5 stars” promised for the poor Italians a monthly income of up to 780 euros, while “League” was intended to introduce a single tax.
Tria said that the basic income scheme “will help to manage the social consequences of the transformation process of production”, adding that giving people the ability to retire early will give companies a young, more skilled workforce.
According to him, the budget will increase public investment and tax reductions, which supports the League will start reducing corporate taxes in 2019 before being extended to individuals in subsequent years.
However, it is not explained how they will be financed basic income and tax measures.
