Several hundred demonstrators, among whom were teenagers and students, marched through the center of Athens. The demonstration was guarded by about 3,000 officers.
Some protesters set fire to several garbage containers and threw stones and “Molotov cocktails” to the police. The protesters also smashed several Windows.
In response, the police used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
Clashes occurred the day before the visit of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, due to the arrival in Athens of which have considerably stepped up security measures.
