On the morning of 18 November, the protesters did not allow MPs from the ruling party “Georgian dream” and other politicians to enter the Parliament building, reports the edition “news of Georgia”. The representative of the United opposition, the leader of the “New Georgia” Giorgi Vashadze called on MPs not to come to Parliament. “I urge all members of Parliament to refrain from doing so to avoid unnecessary excesses. In a press-service of the legislative body confirmed on Monday the Parliament of Georgia failed to recover after the weekend due to the fact that protesters blocked all entrances. However, the Secretary General of the ruling party, Kakha Kaladze said that the authorities do not intend to go on about the protesters.

The reason for the protests was the failure of the bill on the transition from a mixed electoral system of parliamentary elections on proportional in 2020. November 14 deputies after two days of deliberations failed to adopt the relevant amendments to the Constitution of the country. Closer to the evening, the protesters blocked the roadway on Rustaveli Avenue in downtown Tbilisi. Representatives of the two largest opposition parties — the “European Georgia” and “United national movement” — demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia and hold early parliamentary elections.

The transition to a proportional electoral system was one of the promises of the ruling party during street protests this summer. Then, the rallies acquired including anti-Russian character. The opposition was outraged that the Deputy of the state Duma Sergey Gavrilov has taken the place of the speaker of Parliament during the opening of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy. Soon, Russia has canceled direct flights to Georgia.
