It is noted that the MEPs must decide whether to grant robots the status of “electronic man.”
In the report, in particular, specifies that the world is on the verge of a “new industrial revolution robots.” In addition, the document provides guidelines that all developers should make sure that work have a switch that will allow, if necessary, disable all functions. Users must also have the ability to use robots “without risk or fear of physical or psychological harm”.
If MEPs vote in favour of the legislation, the document sent to national governments for further discussion of the amendments before the document becomes EU law.
The publication also notes that the report raises issues related to privacy, personal dignity and physical safety of the people, if the systems fail or are broken.
