In Ethiopia unearthed a unique city

The forgotten ancient city of the tenth century was discovered by archaeologists in Eastern Ethiopia.

Once this place was considered the “home of the giants”. During the excavations the researchers found a lot of artifacts made in ancient in China, India and Egypt.

Among the finds — rich jewelry, bronze and silver coins, ceramics from Madagascar, Yemen and Maldives.

Before archaeologists brought the Islamic gravestones and the ruins of the ancient mosque of the XII century, very similar to those that are still in Tanzania and in Somalia. According to scientists, this discovery proves the existence of historical ties between the various Muslim communities of Africa.

“This discovery completely overturns our previous understanding of the development of trade in this seemingly abandoned area of Ethiopia. As the findings tell us that once this area was a center for trade in the Islamic region,” said leading archaeologist, Professor Timothy Insoll from the University of Exeter.
