In Crimea found 26 skeletons of women with children

Archaeologists have told about the terrible discovery.

Archaeologists Crimean Federal University (KFU) named after V. I. Vernadsky for the first time found a mass grave of parents with children during the excavations of the medieval capital of the Principality of Theodoro on Mangup plateau in the Bakhchisarai district of Crimea.

“It was found 26 skeletons of women with children. They were all laid on the rock and almost covered with earth. It is evident that all this was done in a hurry”, – said the publication of the leader of the expedition, Dean of the history faculty of Kazan Federal University Alexander Herzen.

According to him, most likely buried on the plateau people died in one of the assaults the capital of the Principality in the Middle ages. “They were buried with observance of the Christian rite, with arms crossed. Children aged two to seven years,” he said.

Herzen added that in the course of further research, the archaeologists will find out killed these people during the last assault the Ottoman capital of the Principality of Theodoro in 1475. “While this initial phase of the study. Orthodox Principality of Theodoro or the princedom of Mangoup originated in the mid-fourteenth century and occupied almost the entire South – Western part of the Crimean Peninsula. Capital was located on an isolated plateau of Mangup on the territory of the Bakhchisaray district of the Peninsula. The chief town stood on the cliffs with a height of 70 meters, and fortified perimeter walls had a length of up to 7 kilometers.
