Archaeologists have discovered a huge camp of the Vikings.
A huge camp, in which lived thousands of Vikings as they prepared to conquer England in the late ninth century was discovered by archaeologists.
Founded in Torci, on the banks of the river Trent in Lincolnshire, the camp was used as a defensive and strategic position of the Vikings in the winter months.
The study, conducted by archaeologists from Sheffield and York universities, has shown that the camp had lived at the same time thousands of warriors Vikings, as well as women and children. In addition, the Vikings used this camp as a base for repairing ships, and store the stolen booty.
Professor Dawn Hadley, who led the study from the Department of archaeology the University of Sheffield, said: “the Camp of the Vikings in Tarksi was much more than the usual asylum of the Vikings, which were previously known. It was a huge database, more than most modern cities, where the soldiers lived, had families, played sports and had fun”.
