The fortress itself was excavated two years ago. Then the archaeologists reported that the fortress was built in 1566. She stood for 13 years. After this structure was destroyed by the troops of king of Poland Stefan Batory.
“We know the date when the cross hit the ground, – September 25, 1579. On this day in the fortress “Sokol”, which stormed the troops of the Commonwealth, there was a fire,” said the archaeologists.
Experts said that the cheaper versions of these ornaments were cast in bronze. And in this case, visible manual work. On the cross the inscription read: “Nicholas” and presumably, “Varlaam”.
