In Barcelona, protesters gathered on Tuesday in demonstrations demanding the release of two leaders of the movement for the independence of Catalonia, arrested on Monday.

“Protests in Barcelona began at noon, the evening is planned the continuation of the demonstrations,” the statement reads.

It is noted that about 500 students of the University of Barcelona have left classes to participate in protests.

“We urge the release of our political prisoners and call on the government of Catalonia to abolish the suspension of the Declaration of independence and to proclaim the Catalan Republic,” said Aina Delgado Morell, a spokeswoman for the student organization “Universities”, which stands for independence.

She added that students will continue the protests to “stop the repression by the Spanish state”.

We will remind, the court in Madrid on Monday evening, October 16, issued a warrant for the arrest of two influential Catalan separatists, the leaders of regional organizations who are fighting for independence of autonomy.

National trial chamber of Spain decided that to deprive of freedom required of the heads of the National Assembly of Catalonia and the organization Omnium Cultural Jordi Sanchez and Jordi Quiera. Both structures consist of tens of thousands of members and are considered the main actors of the Catalan crisis.
