Mining Corporation Rio Tinto has unveiled its first fully Autonomous train, who now works in Western Australia.
In its first flight, the composition covered a distance of almost a hundred kilometers without people on Board.
Representatives of Rio Tinto said that used Autonomous freight trains from the beginning of 2017, but previously in all cases on Board was attended by the driver. And only recently the train has performed a fully Autonomous flight in the region of Pilbara in Western Australia.
“Rio Tinto is proud to be a leader in innovation and Autonomous technologies in the global mining industry. We get a long-term competitive advantage. In addition, we prepare our employees for new ways of working to ensure that they will remain part of our industry,” said Executive Director of Rio Tinto’s Chris Salisbury.
Rio Tinto hopes to create a fully Autonomous rail network by the end of 2018. For this, companies need to get some official permission.
