In Australia found fish with amazing jaw

The experts saw a lot of similarity between the fish’s jaw with a human.

In 2017 in Australia near Canberra, scientists discovered the fossilized skeleton parts of fish, which is more than 400 million years. One of the bones of the jaw of the fish is similar to the human elements of the jaw.

Scientists believe this jaw is part of an evolutionary line related to the people.

The element of ancient fish jaw found near limestone lake Bernink, 50 km North-West of Canberra. There is usually find many corals and shells, and skulls of the ancient waterfowl.

According to the scientist Yuji Hu, the element is found the jaw fish is one of the best preserved archaeological finds.

“The fossil shows the structure of the jaw of this ancient fish, which is part of the evolutionary line that is similar to a human,” she said.

During the study, tools used scanning the fossil with high resolution to investigate the internal structure of the skull and meninges, as well as to obtain three-dimensional images with high resolution for the re-Assembly of the elements of the jaw. By the way, earlier this technique was not used for the found elements of vertebrates.

Y. Hu analyzed data from the scan and has revealed a full set of internal jaw cartilage of extinct species of fishes (the placoderms).

“The upper jaw (fossil) – a bone forming the upper jaw in humans. The Chinese fish fossils is the bone, showing a much closer connection with the human lineage than previously thought, but other internal structures were apparently made of cartilage and were not clearly preserved, in contrast to the found skull,” commented Dr. Jing Lou Department of applied mathematics in ANH Research School of Physics and Engineering.

Scientists have also found that the extinct species, fossils of which were found, was different from the human circulatory system.
“Remarkably well-preserved fossil allows us to trace the grooves that carry the blood supply of the jaws and brain,” said researcher Y. Hu.

“The carotid artery in humans and other mammals bringing blood through the neck to supply the head with oxygen. The intersection of the grooves in the meninges in the fossil fish shows that the blood was flowing in the opposite direction than it is in humans. These grooves was the main source of saturated oxygen of blood supply internal carotid artery, which creates a sharp groove leading to the hole up to the cavity of the brain,” commented Dr. Gavin young from the Department of applied mathematics in ANH Research School of Physics and Engineering.
