The bones of the largest known species of dinosaur was discovered during excavations in the South of Argentina.

Paleontologists called the new reptile Patagotitan Mayorum. It is assumed that the weight of the animal was several times greater than the weight of some modifications of the Boeing 737.

In a joint study by scientists from Argentina and the USA it was found that the full body length of a giant dinosaur reached 35 meters, and its height can reach 6 meters. After studying the bones found researchers found that weight reptiles exceed 61 ton. The researchers compared the mass of reptiles with the weight of the largest aircraft in the world. However, only the weight of the Boeing 737 series 737-700 exceeds the mass discovered dinosaur.

“It was probably a massive slow-moving animals. But tyrannosaurs looked like dwarfs compared to these dinosaurs. It’s as if you compare the lion and the elephant,” said one researcher Diego Pol.

Also it is assumed that the found remains could belong to the young members of the species. In this regard, we can assume that the dinosaur could weigh and more than 61 tons.

Paleontologists believe that Patagotitan Mayorum lived 100 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. The reptile was a herbivore and this period has seen an increase in the number of flowering plants. This explains such a huge animal’s body weight.
