From July 2017 the National police of Ukraine established the Office of the organization of police activities on the water and air support, which combined the existing units in eight regions of Ukraine and in Kiev.

The service area encompasses all waters located on the territory of Ukraine. On this day, 14 September, Chairman of the National police of Ukraine Sergey Knyazev.

According to him, the unit operates for only three months, but already has quite high performance.

“Of course, this is only the beginning of service development, but already have positive results: the saved life, almost 30 thousand square meters of recovered networks, more than 100 thousand kilograms of illegally caught fish and identified narcopol hectare”, – said the head of national police.

Sergey Knyazev noted that the personnel of all departments of the water picked up from the police officers who have law enforcement experience on reservoirs that have a boatmaster’s licence and the skills of management of water transport.

In their daily work, the police on the water to organize and carry out activities to save lives and ensure their safety. In addition, check compliance with the law during the use of boats, as well as prevent and detect offences related to poaching.

According to the head of the organization of activities of police units on the water and air support the National police of Ukraine Sergey Naumenko, responsible and organization of air support, namely the group of police that work with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and helicopters.

“This support for the ground teams during special operations, the identification of illegal crops of drugs, crimes related to illegal extraction of mineral resources, illegal fishing, transport of contraband, illicit trafficking of goods by the waterways of the country”, – said Sergey Naumenko.

In particular, since the beginning of the year in the Zaporozhye water police found more than 200 violations, but by its content opened 40 criminal proceedings. For 10 days the staff of the division of the water police of Poltava region found six people who have seized more than 260 kilograms of fresh-caught fish, totaling more than 50 thousand hryvnias. In the Kherson region of the water police work in the fall of 2016. For 8 months of 2017, the police found and seized 486 poaching nets. In offenders seized more than 20 tons of water biological resources totaling more than 500 thousand hryvnia.
