I believe each of you is well known how and in what conditions our students live in the student hostels of our country.
Building student dormitory, The Chapter in London, UK, located close to England’s oldest stations kings Cross and St Pancras.
That’s why Tigg + Coll Architects has made the reconstruction of the dormitory, focusing on the railway past of the area.
The lobby is reminiscent of the arrival hall of the station, with its high concrete ceilings, metal beams, curved wooden benches. The walls are covered with ceramic tiles, the floor area covered with mosaics. Upholstered in soft fabric sofas bring to mind the seat compartment of the car. Located in different areas of the building sofas and carpets offer a convenient Islands for relaxing and socializing. Joint kitchen offers a space where students can cook and eat.
The architects have increased the access to the lobby of daylight by opening the existing mezzanine and adding glass walls in steel frames. Installed a new staircase of steel and wood with a fence of metal mesh; metal elements of the interior again and the console light. Among other additions, which brought the reconstruction of the cinema, and areas for classes, individual and collaborative, dormitory-style long tables and high chairs.
