How people live in the slums of Brazil. Photo

A familiar sight for the slums.

Millions of people in Brazil are living in poverty due to economic decline, corruption and cuts in social programs. A short walk from the famous maracanã stadium in the Mangueira slum in the Brazilian capital is the abandoned building of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Hundreds of people moved here with their children after he lost his job and couldn’t pay the rent. Despite the poor life, there is a strong sense of community among the people occupying the building.
