Public organization ReThink and the Association Ukrainian club of agrarian business, trying to figure out how much food is thrown away in the garbage Ukrainians after celebrating the New year and Christmas holidays.
Experts say that the problem of global food waste is rampant, this is particularly acute during the Christmas holidays and give the facts about food waste on a global scale.
1.3 billion tons of food worth over a trillion euros in the world is thrown away every year;
if discarded food were a country, it would be the world’s third largest CO2 emitter, after the USA and China;
30% of agricultural land and 25% of fresh water used to produce food that will never be consumed;
the amount of food that gets thrown out in Europe could feed 200 million hungry people;
on average, we lose 45% of fruits and vegetables, 35% of fish and seafood, 30% grains, 20% of meat and dairy products.
