They managed to unravel the modern scientist.
Millennia of history has left us many mysteries and secrets, over which is still struggling scientists. Some of them modern science can be solved by the new technologies.
We have made a selection of the ancient mysteries that are solved by our contemporaries.
1. The lost civilization of Nazca
The people of Nazca became famous thanks to the huge mysterious figures drawn on the desert surface of Nazca in Peru. Views were expressed about their alien origins, while scientists have not established that the Nazca used the geoglyphs to communicate with the gods, moving along the outline of the drawing.
Not less mysterious was considered and the disappearance of people. Only recently, scientists from the University of Cambridge has proved that civilization ruined felling of unique trees, huarango, resulting in drought.
2. Underground secret heads of Easter island
For solving the mysteries of Easter island and its stone “inhabitants” of moai is to thank the Norwegian Explorer Thor Heyerdahl. He has organized the expedition, which marked the beginning of the study Islands.
He conducted the first excavations, during which it was discovered that the moai head is actually the whole statue. Some of them have a 7-foot body and are striking in their grandeur. Thor Heyerdahl asked the question: will were the aborigines carve, deliver and install so huge? He has conducted a number of experiments and proved that the idea of ancient people can be repeated. The results of the study Islands traveler reflected in the book “Aku-Aku”.
3. Whale graveyard in Chile
In the Chilean Atacama desert was found a huge graveyard of whales. Scientists have long puzzled over what caused such a massive ejection of giants on the beach. It was later revealed that the remains belong to several different time periods, the first of which happened about 20 thousand years ago, and death of animals caused a bloom of toxic algae.
4. Mysterious notes in a copy of “the Odyssey”
On the pages of the copy of the ancient Greek poem “Odyssey”, which is more than 500 years, was discovered handwritten notes made in an unknown language. Italians Daniele Metelli and Julia Asetta was able to establish that the notes are made in a special form of shorthand which was invented by Jean de Thevenot Pendant.
The deciphering was only possible thanks to modern technology and full access to the data, because the form of shorthand was incredibly rare. However, the shorthand was much more interesting notes: they were ordinary Greek.
5. The first computer Greeks
Anticarsia mechanism is called the first computer in the world. Found him on the ship, which sank about 80-50 BC He had lain on the seabed two thousand years. The wooden frame is not preserved, but the metal parts are corroded.
Only today, scientists were able to recover a model of the mechanism and its purpose is a navigation device. It is surprising that such a complex mechanism could exist at that time. Following this invention came to light only after a Millennium.
6. The lost army cambise II
In 524 BC, the army of the king cambise II popped up in the military campaign against the Ethiopians. 50-thousand army of the king sent to conquer the oases, but all the soldiers had disappeared, because of what this event was considered a legend.
Only recently Italian researchers Angelo and Alfredo Castiglioni have been able to find the remains of the army of the Persian king cambise II and 13 years of work to prove that famous March was not a legend, and the warriors vanished, and died in a sandstorm.
7. Head Basema
Modern technology has stepped so far that scientists now can identify most controversial findings. It happened with the “head Bohema” that was found in the same district of Chichester (England), and for two hundred years remained unnamed because of poor condition.
Laser scanning helped to identify that the 170-pound head belonged to a majestic statue of the Emperor Trajan. It is now believed that the statue welcomed travelers in the harbour of Chichester, and the head itself is recognized as one of the main relics of the period of Roman Britain.
8. “Crawling” rocks in death Valley
Everyone who saw the stones in death Valley in California, felt the chill. In fact, it looks as if the stones are slowly crawling, you should turn away.
Until recently, this phenomenon is not explained. But the scientist Ralph Lorenz was able to unravel the phenomenon: winter around the stones formed a sheath of ice, and when it thaws, the rocks on the slide surface under the action of the strongest winds.
9. Lost grave of Richard III
For many centuries the tomb of Richard III was considered destroyed, and the king’s body — dumped in the river after the monastery where he was buried, went into private hands.
Scientists from Leicester University, did not leave the hope to find the grave and, as it turned out, not in vain. Their ambitious project was a success, and the DNA confirms that they found the remains belong to Richard III.
10. The missing crew of the “Mary Celeste”
The “Mary Celeste” — a famous Ghost ship found in 1872 near the Azores with no crew on Board and without any damage.
Recently chemist Andrea Sella conducted an experiment, which could explain the phenomenon. The ship was approximately 1,700 barrels of crude alcohol, which was the reason for the “invisible explosion”. During his wave of fire passes a wave of cold air, why not there is a fire and soot. And the crew could leave the ship in panic and die on the boat.
11. Egyptian helicopter
Abydos hieroglyphs in the temple of Osiris caused a lot of noise. The fact that the audience saw them as a helicopter, tank and even a plane. This caused a lot of theories about secret knowledge of the ancient Egyptians, predicting the future and even contact with aliens.
But it was much more prosaic. The scientists were able to restore the original characters and prove that the current “corrected” time and natural destruction. And the helicopter and other equipment we see due to the features of the brain that allows you to find familiar symbols in a meaningless set of lines.
