For the first two months of the year there were six murders. No metro in the world could not match the level of crime in new York.
Swedish photographer Willy Spiller, who was then living in new York, documented the journey through the tunnels of the subway with a passionate curiosity of the foreigner, admiring the speed and madness of the time. The project was called “Hell on wheels”.
It was the time of appearance of rap music, graffiti, film adaptation of The video game The Warriors and the first term of ed Koch as mayor of the city. Pictures Willy Spiller can be called a visual document of the time, a vivid poem to the city and its residents.
