In Australia, scientists have created a material that has a higher strength than diamond.
In the laboratory specialists have perfected Lonsdale, hexagonal diamond, discovered in the core of the meteorite.
The reason for the experiment chose Lonsdale, is that the structure of this material differs from similar earth-diamond. Lonsdaleite has a hexagonal crystal lattice, giving scientists additional opportunities. This material was first discovered in 1967 in the core of the meteorite. Provided that the composition of lonsdeylite no impurities, it is harder than diamond by 58%.
In the experiment, the team was able to synthesize nano-particle of this material. It is so hard that scientists can see is that only one method of application of the diamond – mining industry. To create lonsdaleite in the laboratory was required to maintain a stable temperature at the level of a thousand degrees Celsius.
Scientists recognize, produce this material on an industrial scale is incredibly expensive and difficult. However, for small instruments that require incredibly solid components, to apply the diamond is still possible.
