“Fourteen years ago, Google Maps looked very different and was only in English. Now more than 1 billion people use Google Maps to discover new places, find the best routes for driving, Cycling and walking routes and to do something in the real world,” wrote Atsuko Yamagami.
Besides Ukrainian the app taught the following languages: Afrikaans, Albanian, Amharic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Burmese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, Georgian, Hebrew, Icelandic, Indonesian, Kazakh, Khmer, Kyrgyz, Lao, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Mongolian, Norwegian, Persian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swahili, Swedish, Turkish, Uzbek, Vietnamese and Zulu.
According to Yamagami, these 39 languages “spoken by about 1.25 billion people around the world.” First of all, this indicator is associated with native speakers of Indonesian, Filipino and Malay languages.
