Electric generation from renewable sources such as wind and solar will become cheaper in the U.S. gas by 2035, according to the forecast of American research organization Rocky Mountain Institute.
Experts analyzed the ever-decreasing costs of solar and wind energy generation and compared it with the dynamics of the cost of operating gas-fired power plants. In the end, they found that after 2025 the construction of 90% of new gas-fired power plants will be more expensive than the construction of solar and wind installations aggregate capacity. Not fully profitable gas station regarding solar and wind, as predicted by the RMI, will be even in ten years.
In July it was reported that in Germany the electricity produced based on solar, wind, biomass and water, exceeded the share of energy from coal and nuclear power plants.
