He loved to draw monsters more than anything else, because it gave him the freedom and ability to make people not only fear, but also sympathy. His image of the classic monsters of cinema became a separate object of devotion in popular culture, having influenced several generations of artists.
Basil Gogos born March 12, 1949, in a Greek family living in Egypt. At the age of 16 years together with his family he emigrated to the United States, where he was able to study painting. In the 60s the Basil is already working with many publications. They were mostly men’s magazines that publish on the pages of adventure stories. For them, Gogo creates a series of illustrations on the theme of the Second world war, of the dangers lurking in the jungle or in the criminal world. Also he wrote a lot of portraits of beautiful women.

The magazine, created by publisher James Warren and editor Forrest j. Ackermann, was aimed at young readers who are just discovering the classic horror films of the 30’s and 40’s years on television. Working on Famous Monsters of Filmland, Basil produces a huge number of artifacts with such iconic characters like Dracula, the phantom of the Opera, king Kong, Godzilla, Creature from the Black lagoon, the Mummy, the wolf Man and, of course, Frankenstein’s Monster.
In the 70s Gogo moved away from commercial work on illustrations, self-devoting himself to painting, but with the revival of interest in classics of horror in the ‘ 90s, the artist returned to the horror genre. At this time there is a new monster portraits, playing cards, lithography, magazine cover Monsterscene. In addition, Gogos did the artwork for music albums for such rock stars and bands like Rob Zombie, The Misfits and Electric Frankenstein.
In 2006, Gogos became the award winner of The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards in the category of Monster Kid Hall of Fame for his contribution in the field of classic horror.
