In the next hundred years can happen a powerful solar flare that will disrupt the operation of the power system around the world, damage satellites, and disable Internet. And technological accidents can lead to casualties. To such conclusion the American scientists from Harvard University.
The researchers analyzed data on solar flares that occurred earlier. They assessed the likelihood of heavy duty flashes, particularly those that increase the brightness of the Sun by 30 percent and is able to carry the Earth’s ozone layer.
According to scientists, during these events, released the energy of 1036 erg, and it is several times more than usual of the Sun’s energy (1033 ergs per second). Some solar-type stars astronomers recorded an even more powerful flare – up to 1038 erg. However, they occur about 20 million light-years from our planet.

Recall that on 6 September the Sun was the most powerful flare in the past 12 years, which originated in the merger of the two largest groups of sunspots. Already on 7 September there was a second powerful flash, which has assigned the highest class of activity. And on 8 September – the third powerful flash, which is also related to class X.
