The reason of the fault of the glacier and the iceberg is a sharp temperature drop.
From the glacier pine island in Antarctica iceberg broke off a length of about 3.6 kilometers.
Experts note that this iceberg is about ten times less than the blocks of ice that broke off the same glacier two years ago.
Satellite images released by NASA show the appearance of an iceberg with an area of approximately 59 square kilometers in the area of pine island glacier. The reason of the fault of the glacier and the iceberg was the jump in temperature in the southern hemisphere in the period from 24 to 31 January.
“I think that the cleavage of the glacier is a sort of aftershock after a much larger incident,” — said the expert through the physical structure of the glaciers of the Ohio state University Ian Howat.
