Countries – friends of Georgia confirmed the “full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within internationally recognized in its borders.”
Expensive price the Georgians went to the final break with Moscow. After the country took a course to the West, Russia under the guise of “peacekeeping” occupied part of the regions on the territory of Georgia, hoping thus to preserve the remnants of influence in the former Soviet Republic. However, neither Tbilisi nor the international community will not be tolerated this state of Affairs.
At the 24th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the OSCE group of friends of Georgia issued a statement about military conflict in the state. The statement was signed by: Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Czech Republic, UK and USA.
The signatories voiced support for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia “within its internationally recognized its borders” as well as in relation to European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the country. They called on Russia “to fully implement brokered by the EU Agreement on the ceasefire of 12 August 2008, in particular, to withdraw its military units from the occupied territories”.
Interestingly, just a day prior to the publication of statement after a meeting of the countries of friends within the Council of Ministers Secretary of state USA Rex Tillerson announced that the United States strongly supports Georgia’s membership in NATO and look forward to the completion of all the steps to make it happen.
