Paleontologists Portsmouth University in the UK found the fossilised remains of an ancient mammal which is positioned as a distant relative of man. Creature living about 145 million years ago in the era of the dinosaurs, like a rat.
The publication reports that the remains were discovered on the Jurassic coast, located in the South of England, in Dorset.
Experts have studied small samples of rocks, which belong to the early Cretaceous period, and suddenly found two well-preserved teeth, once belonging to the small size of the animal.
According to scientists, the creature belonged to herbivorous or insectivorous. Judging by the degree of wear of the teeth, mammal lived to quite old age.
