Found planetary system of the nearest star to the Sun

Perhaps Proxima Centauri has a multi-component planetary system.

The ALMA telescope in Chile have registered the dust around the star Proxima Centauri. This indicates the presence of a planetary system of the star, reports UKRINFORM with reference to the European southern Observatory.

So, the glow of cold dust observed at a distance of from one to four astronomical units from the star, Proxima Centauri, that is, from one to four distances from the Earth to the Sun.

Observations also indicate possible existence of colder dust belt, and possibly multi-component planetary systems. In the Solar system are similar structure of a larger size; it is believed that such belts consist of stone and ice particles, which has failed to condense into planets.

The main author of a new study by Guillem anglada of the Institute of astrophysics of Andalusia (CSIC) in Granada (Spain) explains the importance of this discovery: “the Dust around Proxima is a very important finding. After opening earth-like planet Proxima b this is the first evidence of the existence of the nearest star to the Sun multicomponent planetary systems, not just a single planet.”

Data from ALMA, allow to assume that around Proxima, there is another, even more cold dust belt ten times beyond the first. If so, the nature of this belt, very cold and far away from the colder and weaker than the Sun, stars, mysterious. Both belt are much farther away from Proxima, Proxima than planet b’s orbit which is from the parent star just 4 million km.

“These observations suggest that Proxima Centauri may have multi-component planetary system with a rich history of interactions that led to the formation of the dust belt. Information about the position of other, not yet discovered planets in this system can give further study,” said Guillem anglada the.

Proxima Centauri – the closest to the Sun is a star, a faint red dwarf, located just four light years away in the southern constellation of Centaurus (the Centaur). Know exactly what revolves around him is similar in size to Earth, the planet Proxima b, discovered in 2016 – the nearest extrasolar planet.
