Astronomers from Spain, Switzerland and Italy discovered super-earths in the habitable zone of the parent star. A study published in the library of electronic preprints.
Exoplanet located at a distance of 21 light-years from Earth and is 2.8 times heavier. A celestial body orbits around GJ 625 stars of spectral type M2, which is about three times smaller and lighter than the Sun.
The orbital period of super-earths around the star is equal to 14.6 days. From exoplanet GJ 625 is removed to a distance of 0.08 astronomical units, which suggests that it is near the inner edge of the habitable zone GJ 625. The average temperature of the surface of a celestial body is estimated at 350 Kelvin.
Super-earths scientists have studied for 3.5 years using the spectrograph HARPS-N (High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher for the Northern hemisphere), set in one of the telescopes at the Roque de Los Muchachos (Canary Islands, Spain).
Experts note that their observed exoplanet is the smallest super-earths of the closest to the Sun. The researchers plan to obtain at least some information about the atmosphere of a celestial body and do not exclude that on its surface could be liquid water.
