The European division of Ford announced the development of a new technology that can tell drivers about the appearance of emergency vehicles on the road.
The system is called Emergency Vehicle Alert is being developed in the framework of the program of creation of “communicating” between cars. She recognizes the sound of sirens of ambulances, police and fire protection, determining their exact location.
After that, the driver will receive a special alarm sound and visual notification indicating what exactly the side the car is approaching. According to the developers, the new system will help motorists quickly to give way to vehicles of emergency services and reduce the number of accidents with their participation.
In addition, Ford engineers engaged in developing technology that can reduce the number of accidents at intersections. Moving on a major highway, the vehicle transmits information about their location and speed to nearby cars, leaving the secondary feeder roads. If the system detects a high risk of collision, both drivers will receive instructions to reduce speed or to stop.
