The Ecumenical Patriarch will contribute to the unification of churches in Ukraine.
“I think so. Until the end of the year there will be a Union (of the churches), and Tomos will receive, and will have one in Ukraine, the Orthodox Church,” he said.
According to him, the Ecumenical Patriarch will contribute to the unification of churches in Ukraine.
“I think that will help us Ecumenical Patriarch in this. It will be representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch on this unification Council. It will help to ensure that the merger took place,” he added.
At the same time, Patriarch Filaret noted that the President will not participate in the Cathedral.
“The fact that the granting of the Tomos of political importance – we would not refuse this. Or rather the creation of an independent Ukrainian Church has a political value. Therefore, without the Ukrainian Church cannot be a state… So the state and the Church are interrelated, although the state does not interfere in the internal life of the Church… Here, for example, will be the Cathedral. And the President will have no involvement. Because we must unite, take a Charter, etc. ” – said Filaret.
He believes that the Kyiv-Pechersk, Pochayiv and Svyatogorsk Lavra must voluntarily make the decision to join a United Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
“We believe that the monks of the Ukrainians will choose the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Because it is not to be the fact that Orthodox Church was subordinate to Moscow. The very brethren must resolve to the Moscow Church they belong to, or to the Ukrainian”, – said Filaret.
“We will not participate in the election of a particular parish Church Ukrainian or Russian. They themselves have to decide and to us”, – he added.
