FIFA president: “The world anti-doping agencies need worldwide reform”

The meeting of the president of Russia Vladimir Putin with the head of FIFA Gianni Infantino took place in Krasnodar. They visited stadium of football club “Krasnodar” and children’s football academy of club. Also presidents made several statements on the anti-doping campaign during the FIFA Confederations Cup and the World Cup 2018. Infantino remarked that the present world system of anti-doping checks needs serious changes — first of all decentralization of the organization and standardization of requirements to athletes worldwide: “There is almost no doping in modern soccer, first of all thanks to the careful work of regional associations. We cooperate with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in some directions, but we can’t trust the organization which is writing hundreds prescriptions for drugs. I can’t understand how is it possible to allow not just drugs for enhancement of sport results, but even to consent to the use of prohibited substances. The sick person shouldn’t play soccer, and drug addict must be constantly supervised by doctor”, the FIFA president declared.

Vladimir Putin also assessed new initiatives of WADA: “We know that the World Anti-Doping Agency supports the idea in every possible way — it is about study of an issue of adopting and implementing measures for development of so-called informants institute. For our country it has special meaning. We know well that, though sad as it is, tragic pages of our history are connected with this institute. Massive Stalinist political repressions are associated with similar institute”.

Also the Russian President suggested WADA to make data on doping tests available for the public: “It is necessary that anyone could visit the publicly available website and look how many tests passed Maria Sharapova, and how many did Serena Williams, and what therapeutic exceptions they had. Otherwise there will be manipulations behind the closed door” — Putin called on at meeting of the Presidential Council for Development of Physical Culture and Sports, which took place in Krasnodar.
This week officers of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will arrive to Moscow to participate in the expanded meeting of the commission on renewal of collaboration with the Russian Anti-Doping Agency. We remind that RUSADA, trying to prove their innocence, sent a lot of documents to WADA, however WADA made the decision on incompatibility of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency with the code of the organization. At the beginning of 2017 RUSADA and WADA agreed on the road map on renewal of membership of the Russian organization. “There aren’t enough proofs in this document (McLaren’s report), as Niggli (the CEO of WADA) noted. It is recognized by representatives of the IOC and WADA, but the report forced us to listen to results of this work”, Vitaly Smirnov, the head of the Independent public anti-doping commission reported during the meeting.
