Roger Federer in the final match of the tournament ATP-1000 in Montreal lost a young Alexander Zverev.
In just 68 minutes young star of the ATP tour dealt with the 19-fold winner of tournaments of the Grand slam. Federer on the court looked sluggish and tired, which led the Swiss to a third defeat of the season and the first misfire in the finals.
In each set, Zverev made one break, and his serve neutralized all attempts of Federer for the resumption of intrigue in the match.
For the victory at the Rogers Cup Zverev earned almost 900 thousand dollars in prize money and 1000 ranking points. The German managed to repeat the achievements of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, becoming the sixth current tennis player who has won the Masters at least twice.
“To win two masters in a season is simply amazing. Lately I have played well – won in Washington and here. Of course, two “masters” – anyone would be proud of this achievement and nobody could expect,” said Zverev after the match.
The title in Montreal has allowed 20-year-old German to start a new week on the status of the seventh racket of the world, and in the title race Asia Pacific Alexander Zverev is second only to Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
