Facebook is working with three world-renowned humanitarian organizations on new maps that are designed to help in the fight against the consequences of disasters. These organizations are UNICEF, the International red cross movement and red Crescent and the world food programme.

In the so-called maps of the disasters are used “aggregate anonymous data” from Facebook. With the help of them the organization can obtain information useful in responding and helping in the hours after the incident.

There are three types of cards. Density maps location show where people were before, during and after a disaster. Data are compared with historical records — for example, estimates of the population. Card movements demonstrate the scheme of movement of people within a few hours. So organizations easier to determine where to direct resources. On the card security checks observed where people reported that are safe after a disaster, and where there is need of help.

These data can greatly help in relief efforts. “We know where the house is, but we don’t know where people are, said Dale Koons (Dale Kunce), a global leader in information communication technologies and Analytics to the American red cross. The first thing we can go where the disaster occurred, but most people with their families may already be 10 miles from there.”

Early professionals in the field of rapid response used Facebook Live and other similar tools to gather relevant information about disasters. In the future Facebook is going to provide access cards to the authorities and other organizations.
