Facebook is caught in another scandal.
Company Facebook acknowledged that provided the large technology companies access to personal data of users, including to correspondence.
The social network has chosen an unusual line of defense: its representatives claim that “the reading of the messages was not a priority”.
Vice-President of Facebook for cooperation Have Archibong wrote in a blog Wednesday that while the giant social networking “is accused of disclosing private messages people partners without their knowledge”, it is “not true”.
Archibong noted that the administration of Facebook “worked with four partners on integrating messaging into their products.” According to him, it allowed users to share messages from other apps with the people in the friends list in Facebook.
As stressed by Archibong, it was only possible if the user went to the specified application using their accounts on Facebook. He explained that, in particular, so “people can send messages to friends about what they listen to on Spotify or watching Netflix, open their folder in Dropbox or to the receipts of transfer of funds through the application of Royal Bank of Canada”. Archibong noted that these practices “carried out in an experimental mode and they stopped almost three years ago.”
The network recognized that the components of the program for the service remains, potentially allowing developers to have access to personal information of users.
The Vice-President of Facebook had to make such a statement after the Times report that the company has resolved Spotify, Netflix and the Royal Bank of Canada “to read, write and delete users’ private messages, and see all the participants of the chat privileges that seemed to go beyond what is necessary for the companies to integrate Facebook into their system.”
It seems that now Facebook is the line of defence, viewing private messages of users was not a priority for companies.
“No third party has not read your personal messages and wrote messages to your friends without your permission. Many of the media talking about the fact that we sent your personal message to partners that it is wrong,” said Archibong.
Nevertheless, it is obvious that the partners Facebook have access to user information and social network of new participants, and increased involvement of users, which led to income from advertising.
