Europe wants to leave Ukraine a major transit country for Russian gas

A valid contract of Naftogaz and Gazprom provides for the mandatory transit through the territory of Ukraine until the end of 2019.

Ukraine has a huge potential to become a significant energy hub or hub, and the EU is ready to support the continued important role of the country in the transit of Russian natural gas to Europe.

This was announced by Vice-President of the European Commission on energy Union Maros Sefcovic at the 14th annual YES conference in Kyiv.

“The continuation of transit of gas through Ukraine after 2020 (after the end of the contract Naftogaz of Ukraine Gaproma – ed.) is a priority for the EU”, – he said.

According to maroš Šefčovič, it is also important to work together to improve energy efficiency of the Ukrainian economy, the exploration of natural gas, growth in bilateral trade, has received a boost in connection with the entry into force of the free trade Area with the EU.
