Erdogan accused the West of hypocrisy.
“There is no explanation of the betrayal of friendship with Turkey that does not correspond to our bilateral relations and fundamental values, has no explanation”.
This is stated in the published in the Guardian newspaper article of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in connection with the anniversary of the events of July 15.
In his article, Erdogan pointed out that a year after the military coup, it advocates the democratic values.
“A year ago, millions of people, putting aside political and cultural discrimination, have demonstrated perseverance against individuals who tried to change the Constitution, they shot at innocent people and bombed the Parliament. The Turkish nation, demonstrating unity, prevented armed group to influence democracy, sovereignty and way of life. Preventing a military coup is a turning point in the history of democracy of the country,” Erdogan said.
The Turkish President stressed that the leaders of the West must make a choice: to side with the terrorists or to earn back the trust of the Turkish people.
“The hypocrisy of the West and the double standards too concerned about the Turkish nation, which defends their freedom. Attempt of our government to bring to justice, supported the initiative of the military coup of Fethullah Gulen and his followers are important not only for Turkey but also for Democrats around the world”, — said the Turkish leader.
