Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his message on the occasion of Europe Day, which is celebrated in the EU on 9 may, has criticized the European Union for spreading “discrimination, cultural racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia”.
In the appeal, Erdogan said that the greatest threat to the future of the EU is the growing influence of right-wing forces.
“Unfortunately, social ills such as discrimination, cultural racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia spread quickly on the European continent. Extreme-right parties captured the socio-political life of Europe,” Erdogan said.
He expressed his willingness to continue the process of accession to the EU, but the talks should be held “in the framework of mutual respect and equality”. At the same time, he recalled the role that Ankara plays in the solution to the immigration crisis.
