Starobilsk district court of Lugansk region extended by two months the measure of restraint in form of detention in respect of the former head of fraction of Party of regions in the Verkhovna Rada of the 7th convocation Oleksandr Yefremov.
“The court finds it necessary to extend the measure of restraint in form of detention against the accused for a period of 60 days”, – stated in the decision. Yefremov remains in custody up to October 7, inclusive.
The defense and the accused asked to change the measure of restraint and release on bail of people’s deputies from the opposition bloc Yuriy Myroshnychenko and Nikolay Skorik. They are former members of Party of regions. The lawyers insisted that the “prosecution is built on assumptions.” “There are no grounds to change the measure of restraint”, – has decided court.
The Board agreed that the milder restraint will not be enough to prevent risks. In particular, the prosecution pointed out that Efremov could influence witnesses. Several witnesses at the hearing confirmed threats “in connection with their testimony”.
