Environmentalists have warned about the danger of burning the leaves

In Ukraine begins a dangerous season of fires.

Burning Prairie grass leads to the transformation of entire areas in the desert, smoke from burning leaves affects the health of every second resident of the country, but the struggle with this phenomenon is conducted exclusively by the police. This was stated by the ecologist of the international organization “Ecology-People-law” Alexey Vasilyuk.

Answering the question of whether bonfires of leaves and grasses in the current season the same mass, as in previous years, the ecologist said: “of Course, they will burn, and have a tourniquet. In the steppe zone of burning grass, from August. It is a great tragedy which leads to loss of soil, to the transformation of these lands into deserts. All burned, soils are not restored, lost of fertile soil”.

At the same time, Vasylyuk said: “the Greatest danger that fire poses to people is the smoke. Every second Ukrainian is allergic to smoke, it contributes to the development of several diseases, including bronchitis. Those who have weakened immune system, get sick more often”.

The ecologist also drew attention to the fact that often people don’t realize what substances are inhaled with the smoke. “For example, in the gardens, growing potatoes, which for a long time is treated with pesticides against pests. When the plants are sprayed, applied protective measures: wear mask, gloves, etc. And when the dried leaves are burned around the fire pit kids running around and no one cares,” – he said.

And gave another example. “From the spring on the leaves of the trees that grow along roads, become heated car exhaust, radionuclides and other contaminants. Then the leaves are raked into a pile and ignited it – right in the city. And all that breathe. That is accumulated throughout the season, we breathe in a day”.

Speaking about the suppression of the fires, he recognized that in Russia to cope with this task better, “although in many ways it gives us a bad example.” “There’s a ban on burning anything. On the territory of Russia from now on nothing is impossible to burn – in fear of strict liability.” “And we, of course, there are no restrictions – except police or other government Agency could deal with it”, – stated the ecologist.
