The founder of SpaceX Elon Musk has demonstrated a tunneling shield, which will accelerate the creation of tunnels up to 10 times.
This equipment is used for laying of the test section of the tunnel in the area near the office SpaceX in Los Angeles.
Workers have already dug a test trench length 15 meters and width 9 meters at a depth of 4.5 meters on the territory of the headquarters of SpaceX in Hawthorne. The photo of the machine that are used in these studies, Elon Musk posted on his blog. Explanation of the photos was very short and consisted of one word – Minecraft.
However, in the comments Elon Musk announced that his company has received from city authorities of the permission to lay the tunnel with a length of about 20 meters from Crenshaw Boulevard to the Parking lot of the campus SpaceX. As noted by the employees of the company, this tunnel can become a test platform device for the construction of underground structures on Mars.
