American scientists conducted a study and found that regular lemons can be a source of infectious diseases.
It turned out that the microorganisms reach the lemon slices in the kitchen, where they are cut for the decoration of dishes and drinks. Also microbes get on lemon slices in contact with glasses when serving drinks.
In addition, the researchers noted that lemons tend to damage tooth enamel and cause worsening mouth ulcers, as they contain a lot of acid.
Lemons can cause nausea, so in their composition contains large amounts of vitamin C and a few glasses of lemon juice may cause a surplus. Restaurants often serve cocktails that included lemon juice – doctors recommend to be careful with them.
Vitamin C stimulates the absorption of iron, so excessive consumption of these citrus fruits can lead to excess iron in the blood.
It is also worth gently to drink lemon juice with certain medications as they may interfere with the absorption of the drug.
Scientists say that a daily dose of lemon juice should not exceed 120 ml.
