“We (The Insider and Bellingcat) identified “Alexander Petrov” as Alexander E. Mishkin, a military doctor in the service of the GRU. In the process of identifying Bellingcat examined the numerous open sources, testimony from people who are familiar with the face, as well as copies of identification documents, including a scanned copy of his passport,” – said in the message.
As noted, Alexander Mishkin was born 13 July 1979 in the village of Loyga, Arkhangelsk region. He graduated from one of the elite of the Russian military medical academies and was trained as a military physician for the naval forces of Russia.
While training Mishkin was recruited into the GRU, and by 2010 had moved to Moscow.
In the period from 2011 to 2018 Alexander Mishkin traveled under his new name. Investigators Bellingcat found out that he has many times in Ukraine. The last trip took place during the Euromaidan protests in Kiev in December 2013.
