Saturday, 26 August 2017 in California died Touba (otherwise – Tobe, Toby) Hooper (Tobe Hooper). He was 74 years old. The cause of death is not yet announced.
Hooper was born on 25 Jan 1943 in Austin (Texas, USA). Since childhood, fond of cinema and at the age of 9 years filmed father. Before becoming a filmmaker, Tobe taught in College and worked as an operator on the set of student short films and documentaries.
His first film was the fantasy-drama “Eggshell” (Eggshells, 1969), but fame and success brought second picture, the famous “Texas chainsaw massacre” (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, 1974). To this day many consider “TRB” one of the scariest horror films, and we horror fans will always remember. in the first place with this picture.
Officially Hooper is also a Director of another big genre hit, “Poltergeist” (Poltergeist, 1982), however, there is considerable evidence that in fact this film was made by Steven Spielberg, the producer and screenwriter.
On account of a Hooper, however, still a number of notable horror games, including “Texas chainsaw massacre 2” (1986), and such films as Eaten alive (1977), “the Salem vampires” (1979), “snake venom” (1981), “Life force” (1985), “Spontaneous combustion” (1990), “Mangler” (1995), “Nightmare house on the hills” (2004).
Among his other works we can distinguish the video shoot for the musician Billy idol song “Dancing With Myself”, and in 2011 he published the postmodern horror novel “Midnight Movie” in which Tobe has not only been listed as co-author, but became a main character.
Hooper’s death was another in a series of deaths of the great horror Directors. Earlier, in July, is dead George Romero, in April there was Jonathan Demme, Creator of the “silence of the lambs” in 2016 in a world gone Gershel Gordon Lewis, Robin hardy, in 2015 – was not Wes Craven.
