Churkin died of a heart attack, media reported.
Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations died in the premises of the Russian mission in Manhattan on Monday morning due to heart problems.
This was reported by sources The Post.
“Vitaly Churkin, became ill about 9:30 a.m. at the mission on East 67th Street due to a heart attack,” the sources said.
Churkin in an unconscious condition was taken to Presbyterian hospital in new York. His death was announced at the UN meeting.
Vitaly Churkin was the permanent representative of Russia to the UN on 8 April 2006.
Russian President Vladimir Putin highly appreciated the professionalism and diplomatic skill of the Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin, was saddened to learn of his death, said press Secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov,
“The President learned with deep sorrow learned of the death of Vitaly Churkin. The head of state appreciated the professionalism and diplomatic skill Churkin,” – said D. Peskov.
Press Secretary of the Russian President noted that Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the Russian diplomat, and the staff of the foreign Ministry.
