The vote took place on the night of Saturday: 55 senators voted in favor, 23 against, under protest, which took place near the Parliament building in Warsaw.

In Poland, the Senate, the upper house of Parliament, approved a new version of the law on the Supreme court of Poland.

Earlier this law was approved by the lower house of Parliament, the Sejm, and for the entry into force remains the signature of the President.

The law, among other things, provides for the dismissal of Supreme court judges, except those appointed by the President and gives the President the power to direct the activities of the courts.

As previously reported, the Polish ruling party “law and Justice” (PiS) changed three of the law on the Supreme court, the National judicial Council and the courts of General jurisdiction. Thus, the government wants to get rid of the pathologies in the judicial system of the country.

The opposition and the majority of the judiciary insist that it is an attempt to subordinate the judiciary to the Executive.

Over the past few days in different cities of Poland protests against the proposed changes, in particular under the country’s Parliament in Warsaw. The European Commission urged the Polish authorities to refrain from changes in the judicial system. In Warsaw said that such statements of Brussels, are groundless interference in the internal Affairs of the country
