“Deep blue sea” (Deep Blue Sea, 1999) is one of the best animal horror (not a masterpiece like Jaws, but really exciting movie) and probably the last truly successful film directed by Renny Harlin. With a budget of $ 60 million, “Deep blue sea” at the time grossed nearly 165 million. As a rule, in these figures, the producers start thinking about creating sequels, sequels, “the Deep blue sea 2”, so no one ever saw. Although dequel was indeed in development!
Here’s how it happens. In 1999 on the screens out another film of the same variety – “lake placid: the Lake of fear”, which enjoyed less success, but spawned a few direct-to-video sequels. But “Deep blue sea 2” in any format did not appear. Although the project was even enshrined the Director.

Sam Perez says:
They [studios and producers] were interested in the development of the theme of the experiments on sharks. The script was about the research vessel, which was hijacked by Somali pirates. The seal team was to capture this ship, and that was a huge swimming science lab with a maze of tunnels, corridors, for which sharks are held in internal tanks. As I imagined it – “Sergeant Rock vs sharks” [Sergeant Rock – the famous comic book character – approx. darklot], so I came up with a whole platoon based on my favorite characters from “Sergeant Rock”. Otherwise it was like a “Predator”. Definitely, there was the likeness of the same mixed company.

I think that’s all? No, the fun ahead! Perez also told about the crazy idea of arming sharks with machine guns! Seriously, he wanted to enter into the story of sharks, which surgically would the machine guns on the body.
On paper it looks absolutely ridiculous, but I had intended to give the sharks a sort of mutant Frankenstein, cruel and tragic. Not counting the conversations between the seals, this film would not be much funny.
For better or worse, but Warner Premiere has stopped developing before the casting started. Some movies are just too good for our universe 🙂
