The so-called local version of carnival, which takes place on Shrove Tuesday.
On the eve of lent, which for Catholics begins March 1, 2017, in the Czech Republic will host the carnival processions, a sort of Czech carnival or Mardi Gras.
Most clearly is this event in the Eastern part of the country, in the region Hlinecko. Processions usually start early in the morning. To see them come: February 11 at 7:30 in Hamry, February 18 at 9:00 in Studenytsya, February 19 at 7:00 in Hlinsko, February 25 at 8:00 in Vertova. In these villages still preserved ancient folk tradition of walking the Shrovetide processions of masks from house to house, which in 2010 was included in the List of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO. Masks are worn only by men. Each mask plays a role and takes his place in the procession.
Prague carnival festival will be held Saturday, February 25, through Tuesday, February 28. For guests will be organized theatrical performances, processions and concerts.
