Tourism has replaced weak exports.
This year Cuba will close a new record when the number of foreign tourists will reach 4.75 million, reported recently a senior official of the Ministry of tourism of the island (MINTUR).
“Despite U.S. sanctions that restrict the entry of nationals of Cuba, and a sharp decline in the first half of 2018, we plan to complete this year with a new record high number of foreign guests,” said Michelle Bernal, Director of MINTUR, at a press conference.
Tourism in Cuba has set a new record this year, although the increase was due mainly to the arrival of the travelers on cruise ships in large quantities, which, according to analysts, made a lower contribution than the ordinary traveller, in the economy of the island country. The number arriving by plane decreased by 6 percent and this means that in Cuban hotels and hotels with accommodation and Breakfast stops less tourists.
Over the last few years a tourist boom on the largest island of the Caribbean has helped to compensate for weaker exports and a sharp reduction in aid from key ally Venezuela.
At the end of 2017 tourism failed because of the devastation caused by hurricane Irma, and tightening of travel restrictions in the United States, entered the property of trump. However, began to revive in the second quarter of this year.
